E_TeskeyLast week, in order to lift the curtain and introduce the people working behind the scenes we did a short interview with Pen and Kink founder Cori Vidae. This week we’d like to continue along those same lines with this, an interview with our publicist, Elesha Teskey. Enjoy!

1) Why did you decide to work for P&K?

I love books, plain and simple. I love the idea of helping to get them out into the world and in the hands of people who will love them. When you work for something smaller, like a micropress, there so much love that goes into it and it’s nice to be part of that.

2) What do you love most about publicity? writing?

I like promoting, being a cheerleader for things I love. I also like making connections and meeting people.
For writing,I love that anything is possible. I write mostly urban fantasy because I love the idea that there is more to the world than what we see. I guess what I love most is creating worlds and characters.

3) Do you have a favourite spot to read/write?

My favourite spot to read is in the sunshine, inside or outside.
My favourite place to write, is in the rocking chair that I’ve claimed for that purpose. I have all my favourite books on the shelf beside me, a massager on the chair, and a heated throw for chilly nights.

4) What are some of your hobbies?

Aside from reading…I’ve read Tarot cards for over 20 years now. It started as a hobby developed into a bit of a business, though I don’t do paid readings as often anymore. Most of my hobbies have taken a backseat since I’ve had children, but reading and Tarot were ones I’ve refused to put aside.

5) What inspires you?

I find a lot of inspiration in people and music.

6) What was your first job?

Babysitting was my main job as a teenager. Aside from that, my first 9-5 job was working at Chapman’s Ice Cream during the summer vacation in the section they called Dixie Land. That’s where they made ice cream sandwiches, nutty cones, and little ice cream cups, which I don’t think they produce anymore.

7) What are some of your favourite books/authors?

This could be a very long winded answer, but I’ll try to contain myself.
I adore Anne Rice, especially her vampire chronicles. After reading her, I’m very fussy about my vampire stories. I love strange and dark books but am a sucker for a good romantic sub-plot. American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis is one of my favourite books, along with Clive Barker’s Cabal. I love Neil Gaiman, especially American Gods. My husband got me into Terry Goodkind’s Sword of Truth series back when there was only three books (the series ended at 11, not including some that came after with the same characters). Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Avalon series and Harry Potter also have special places on my shelf.

8) What’s something people may not know about you?

I buy purses based on if they can fit a hardcover book in them. I almost always have a book with me.
I also studied Astrology for many years, to the point where I can draw up natal charts (a map of where the planets were when a person is born) and interpret them. I use that knowledge to help build characters.

Elesha Teskey worked as a radio News Director for ten years and in communications. She’s never caught without a book to read and purchases purses based on whether or not books fit into them. She’s thrilled to be helping put books into the world and promoting them.
