My husband ignores me as he wads up another of my silk blouses and stuffs it into a cardboard box.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlex, it\u2019s me. Sadie. Dammit, look at me!\u201d I try to grab his arm, but my hand passes through it like a rock falling through water. \u201cPlease!\u201d<\/p>\n

He grabs a pair of my shoes next.\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cDammit, not the Prada!\u201d<\/p>\n

Alan gives no sign he heard me.<\/p>\n

\u201cStop pushing me out of your life!\u201d<\/p>\n

He hasn\u2019t heard me in forever.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlan!\u201d<\/p>\n

Not since that day.<\/p>\n

Tires shrieked. Someone screamed. Everything stopped.<\/p>\n

When I open my eyes, I stand in front of the door to our condo. Again. Every time I think back on that day, that moment, it happens again. Death drops me right back where it did the moment my life ended. Over and over, I keep ending up on my own damn doorstep.<\/p>\n

Fuck.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou really never give up, do you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Fuckity fuck fuck.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d lean my head against the door if I could. \u201cWhat do you want?\u201d<\/p>\n

The man behind me chuckles. \u201cJust enjoying the floor show, darling.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNot your darling,\u201d I snap, pivoting like a hockey player about to hit the boards.<\/p>\n

Nathaniel leans near the wall without touching it. Blue eyes. Tousled dark hair. A grin like a rogue. The cloying air of insouciance. Too damned attractive by half. Why am I even thinking that when my husband is in our apartment, boxing up the remaining evidence of my life?<\/p>\n

\u201cYou should just give it up, six-oh-one. They all move on without us in the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

My non-beating heart freezes. Nope. Not Alan. Alan swore he\u2019d love me forever. Eight years wasn\u2019t forever. Not even fucking close.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been two years,\u201d tall, dark, and annoying adds. \u201cHow long do you want him to mourn?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFuck you,\u201d I hiss. \u201cJust because you got forgotten doesn\u2019t mean I will. Alan loves me. Did anyone even give a shit about you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Hurt flashes quick as lightning across his face and something hot and thick like tar bubbles up in my chest. Something like shame. Before I can take the words back, Nathaniel straightens up. \u201cSuit yourself, sweetheart.\u201d Then he turns and passes through the wall behind him.<\/p>\n

\u201cAsshole.\u201d Turning away from the empty hall, I melt through the door.<\/p>\n
